Sigurður Sigurðsson was born on July 23, 1851 in N. Múlasýsla. He took the name Sam Sigurdson in the west.

Sigurður was the brother of Daníel who came west in 1873. He came west to Minnesota before 1885 and is registered as living in Marshall. It is not clear who Aðalbjörg is or what year she moved west, but together they lived in Minneapolis from 1890 where the children were born. Fannie May was the first Icelandic child baptized in the city. Rev. Níels Steingrímur Þorláksson performed the baptism. Sigurður goes west from Minnesota to the new settlements in Saskatchewan, passing by those in N. Dakota, and in 1905 the family moved there.
