Sigurlaug Guðmundsdóttir was born on February 17, 1842 in Skagafjarðarsýsla. She died in Manitoba on July 5, 1916.

They came west to New Iceland in 1876 and first lived in Sandvík south of the Árnes Settlement. They settled in the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota in 1881 but never moved there, instead they lived in Winnipeg until 1884. They then settled in the Árnes Settlement on land previously called Skipalækur but Rögnvaldur named Mæri. They lived there until 1899, when they moved to Argyle, Manitoba, with their daughter, Lilja. They lived there the rest of their lives.
