Sigurlína was the daughter of Benedikt Jónsson and Sesselja Pálsdóttir. Sigurlína’s father and Baldur’s mother were siblings, children of Jón Jónsson in Mýri í Bárðardal. She moved to Alberta about the same time as Baldur. He was the son of the poet Stephan G. Stephansson and his wife Helga Jónsdóttir. He grew up in the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota with his parents and siblings and moved with them west to Alberta in 1890. He began farming there in 1905 and farmed until his dying days.
