Sigurrós was the daughter of Jóhann Stefánsson and Ingibjörg Jóhannesdóttir who came west from Eyjafjarðarsýsla in 1876 with their four children. They sailed on the “Verona” to Halifax and continued west to New Iceland. There Jóhann settled in the Framnes settlement, but in 1881 the family moved south to N. Dakota and settled near Mountain. Sigurrós grew up there. She and Kristján lived in the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan.
