Sigursteinn Davíð Eyjólfsson was born in Árborg, Manitoba on December 7, 1918.

Sigursteinn was the son of Sveinn Eyjólfsson and Þuríður Steinunn Stefánsdóttir from Garðar, N. Dakota. Sólrún’s parents were Benedikt Valdimar Sigvaldason, a farmer in the Framnes settlement, and María Ingibjörg Ólafsdóttir. Sigursteinn completed his primary education at the schools in Geysir and Árborg. He fished for eight years in the winter in Lake Winnipeg. He then worked agricultural jobs in the summer. He bought his father’s land in 1944 and farmed. He was an outstanding athlete and won countless awards. Sólrún became a teacher and studied art painting.
