Sigvaldi Jónsson was born in N. Múlasýsla October 14, 1848. Died in Saskatchewan before 1920.

Spouse: Björg Kristjánsdóttir b. November, 1860 in S. Þingeyjarsýsla. Sigvaldi was twice married before; his first wife Sigríður Björnsdóttir d. 1869, his second was Matthildur Eymundsdóttir d. 1885.

Children: With Sigríður a daughter who died in infancy. With Matthildur he had five children four of whom died in infancy. One daughter, Sigríður Stefanía b. August 31, 1875 emigrated with her father. He had one son, Stefán Ólafur b. January 31, 1881 with one Anna Sigurðardóttir, who also emigrated with his father. Björg had a daughter with Jósef Jónsson whose name was Elín Ragnheiður b. at Burstarfell in Vopnafjörður October 8, 1886, d. in BC in 1869.

Sigvaldi og Björg emigrated in 1889 to Winnipeg in Manitoba. In 1890 they settled east of Churchbridge in Saskatchewan but a drought period forced them off their land and back to Winnipeg where they opened a dairy. Both Sigvaldi and Björg had relatives in New Iceland so in 1901 the settled on land in the Icelandic River Settlement they called Burstarfell. In 1902 they are listed there with only one child, Elín. The fate of Sigríður and Stefán is unknown. Their stay in New Iceland was brief and in 1903-1904 they got established on land north of  Elfros in Saskatchewan where Sigvaldi later lost his life. After his death, Björg found work in the area but around 1930 she moved to California where her brother, Snorri, was living in San Diego. She returned to Saskatchewan ten years later and lived with her daughter for the rest of her life.
