Símon Sveinsson was born in Gimli on August 2, 1878. He died in Chicago on January 27, 1943.

Símon was the son of Sveinn Sveinsson and Guðrún Símonardóttir, pioneer settlers in New Iceland. Solveig was the daughter of Sveinn Kristjánsson and Veroníka Þorkelsdóttir, pioneers in the Víðines Settlement in New Iceland. Símon and Solveig moved to Wynyard in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1907 and lived there until 1924 when they moved from there to Chicago. They lived there the rest of their lives.
