Skúli Hjörleifsson was born in New Iceland on March 14, 1895. He died in Ottawa on May 3, 1976.

Skúli grew up in Húsavík south of Gimli, Manitoba. He was the son of Magnús Hjörleifsson and Guðný Halldórsdóttir who came west in 1893. Skúli was educated and studied accounting. He worked as an accountant his entire working life. Ósk Guðný was only a few months old when she came west with her parents, Pálmi Lárusson and Guðrún Steinsdóttir in 1893. They went to New Iceland. Skúli and Ósk settled in Riverton after 1920 and lived there until they divorced. Then Ósk moved to Winnipeg and Skúli to Ontario.
