Snæbjörn emigrated west with his parents, Snorri Jónsson and Kristjana Sigurðardóttir, in 1883. They took land in New Iceland and Snæbjörn grew up in the Ísafold Settlement in his father’s house. He moved with them to theVíðir-Sandy Hills Settlement and lived there. Sigríður emigrated west the same year with her mother, Kristjana Ólafsdóttir and her brother Hannes. Her father Jón Jónasson emigrated the year before. They also settled in the Ísafold Settlement. Snæbjörn and Kristjana lived at his father’s farm in the Víðir Settlement.
