Snorri came west alone to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1889 and tried his luck in N. Dakota. There he met Elína and they started farming in Mouse River, N. Dakota. From there, they headed north to the Fljóts settlement in New Iceland in 1898 and stayed there until 1904. Then they were tempted by the plains west of Saskatchewan and they settled in the Garðar settlement northeast of the village of Mozart. In addition to farm work, Snorri taught musical instruments and singing. In 1920, they moved to San Diego, California, where Snorri died. Elín then moved north to Stafholt in Blaine, Washington.
