Sigtryggur came west with his widowed mother, Helga Ásmundardóttir, and his sister Ingiríður. They settled in the Argyle Settlement in Manitoba. He took land in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1905. Soffía Guðrún came west in 1901 with her mother, Guðrún Aldís Guðmundsdóttir, and siblings.
