Two of Soffia’s children, Jon and Gudrun emigrated to Canada, Guðrún in 1891 and Jon a year later. One Canadian source (IRS) states that Soffía emigrated and lived numerous years with her son Jon in the Icelandic River Settlement in New Iceland. Later she moved west to Blaine, Washington. The same souce maintains that once in Canada, Gudrun got married and lived in Vancour. A speculation can thus be made that Gudrun, living on the West Coast must have been the reason Soffia, now in her old age, moved out west.
