Soffía came west alone to Winnipeg in 1893. Jón came west to Ontario, Canada with his parents, Jón Jónadabsson and Ingibjörg Tómasdóttir, in 1874. From there, they moved to New Iceland, N. Dakota, and finally to the Lundar Settlement in 1891. They took land there and began farming. They opened a store and ran it until 1914. They lived there the rest of their lives.
