Sófónías Sigbjörnsson was born in Vopnafjörður in N. Múlasýsla in 1889. He died in Vancouver in 1949.
Unmarried and childless.
He came west in 1904 to Winnipeg with his father, Sigbjörn Sigurðsson and brothers. He worked as a house builder in the city until 1908, then moved west to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) with his father and took land there. With them was Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, Sigbjörn’s sister, and she lived with Sófónías until her death in 1920. Then Sófónías stopped farming and moved to the village of Leslie, where he ran a hardware store and did carpentry.
