Solveig was born on the Atlantic Ocean on the way from Iceland to Canada. Her parents were Jón Bjarnason and Guðný Guðmundsdóttir who settled in the Fljóts Settlement in 1893. Vilhjálmur came west in 1888 with his mother, Guðrún Ingólfsdóttir, and sister Ingólfína. His father Árni emigrated a year later. They lived in Winnipeg. Árni died in 1898 and she moved to Icelandic River (Íslendingafljót) in the Ardals Settlement and Guðrún took land there. Vilhjálmur and Solveig lived in Riverton and Solveig lived there there rest of her life.
