They came west to Manitoba in 1912. Einar had done fishing and commercial work in Iceland, so his Western mind was inclined towards the same. He investigated the situation in Winnipeg and examined the conditions in Poplar Park, about 100 km (62 miles) northeast of Winnipeg. From there, his path led to Lonely Lake, northeast of Lake Manitoba, where he had a large farm. In 1928, he moved to Steep Rock where he opened and operated a store. He lived there after that.
