Stefán Jónsson  was born on July, 1830 in Húnavatnssýsla. He took the names Asman, then Ousman in the west. He died in April 1907 in Minneota, MN.

Spouse: Sep. 13, 1862 Rósa Kristjánsdóttir b. in Húnavatnssýsla in 1845; d. March 1944 in Minneapolis.

Stefán had three other children outside of marriage. With Sigríður Pétursdóttir: Ingibjörg b. 1862. With Ingibjörg Sölvadóttir: Helga b. 1867; d. 1898. With Ingibjörg Gísladóttr: Ingiríður Stefánsdóttir b. 1882; d. 1882.  Rósa had a child with Jon Arnason, poet at Vidimyri before she was married: Ingibjorg, b. 1866, d. inf. Jon wrote a poem about Rosa.

The family came west to North America and settled in the area of Minneota, Minnesota. He was first in Westurheim Township, Lyon County, then built a farm in Nordland Township of the same county. Ingibjorg Olafsdottir was a servant who came with them to N. America.  The Minneota Mascot describes Stefan as a “man of quiet disposition, good habits, industrious and well acquainted with the hardships and poverty of pioneer life. Through toil, thrift and in later years through the able assistance of their children, Mr. and Mrs. Ousman had come to comfortable circumstances and enjoyed the fruits of their labor”.
