Stefán Sveinbjarnarson was born May 10, 1861 in Snæfellsnessýsla. Swanson in Canada. Died December 12, 1940 in Selkirk.

Stefán emigrated to Winnipeg in Manitoba in 1882 and went to N. Dakota. His stay there was brief as he went north to Manitoba the following year and is listed in Icelandic River Settlement in New Iceland when he becomes a naturalized British subject in 1886.  Sigríður emigrated in 1888 to Winnipeg where she stayed some time. She had relatives in New Iceland and moved to Icelandic River where she met Stefán. He had claimed land in the settlement in 1886 but worked at a sawmill east of Lake Winnipeg and together they moved out there to Bad Throat River where they lived some time.They returned to Icelandic River in 1891 but eventually settled in Selkirk in 1899 after a short stay in Winnipeg.
