Stefanía was the daughter of Jónatan Jónatansson Líndal and Ingibjörg Soffía Benediktsdóttir in the Garðar settlement in N. Dakota. Stefán was the son of Grímur Einarsson and Sigríður Gunnlaugsdóttir in N. Dakota. Grímur came west in 1876, was in New Iceland for four years, then moved in 1880 to N. Dakota.
