Sturlaugur Guðbrandsson: He was born on December 30, 1850 in Strandasýsla but moved as a child with his parents to Dalasýsla. He took the name Sterling Gilbertson in the west. He died on March 13, 1939.
Spouse: Áslaug Guðmundsdóttir b. August 1859 at Tjaldanes in Dalasýsla. She died in 1931.

They emigrated to America in 1878. With them was Aslaug’s mother, Holmfridur Jonsdottir. They settled in Minnesota and lived near Minneota in Lyon County; in the 1880 census they were in Nordland Township. Sturlaugur was a fine man and prominent in the area, serving as Mayor of Minneota for a time.
