Svanfríður Jakobsdóttir was born on January 20, 1885 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla.

Svanfríður came to the West in 1905, she was the daughter of Jakob Sigurgeirsson from Grund in Eyjafjörður who came west in 1888 and died in Mikley on August 1, 1937. Gunnlaugur came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1905, the year before his parents, Haraldur Sigurðsson Hólm and Helga Gunnlaugsdóttir. He went with his parents to Víðir-Sand Hills settlement in 1905 and was a farmer there until 1946. Then he and Svanfríður moved west to the Pacific coast and lived in Stevenson, British Columbia for a few years, spent some time in Vancouver, but ended up at Betel in Gimli in the fall of 1963.
