Sveinbjörn Jónsson was born in S. Múlasýsla on February 17, 1878. He took the name Sveinbjörn J. Eiríksson in the west.

Sveinbjörn was the son of Jón Eiríksson and Petrína Jónsdóttir. He moved to Nova Scotia, Canada with his father and his family in 1879, to Winnipeg in 1882, and lastly to New Iceland in 1885. Jón took land there and named his farm Lund. Sveinbjörn lived there the rest of his life.
