Teitur Ingimundarson was born in Gullbringusýsla in 1855. He died in Winnipeg on September 20, 1917. He took the last name Thomas in the west.

Teitur was a watchmaker and goldsmith and emigrated west to Winnipeg with his family in 1887; his brother Gudjon was traveling with him. Teitur stayed there for two years but then returned to Iceland and worked on his craft for a few years but then came back in 1894 and settled in Winnipeg. He kept track of the gold rush in the Klondike and went there for his first trip in 1899, but the trips became a total of four. He worked in a gold mine but also ran a store there.
