Thelma was the daughter of Bjarni Eyjólfsson from Laugarvatn and Guðný Jónsdóttir from Víðastaðir in Hjaltastaðaþinghá. Bjarni came west in 1910 and Guðný in 1913. They were married in 1917 and lived in Big Point. They moved from there to Langruth in 1913. Thelma was educated at the Jón Bjarnason Academy and the Normal Teachers School in Winnipeg. After graduation, she taught in Manitoba for 4 years and in Vancouver for 16 years. Jóhann Kristinn was the son of Hannes Erlendsson and Jóhanna Magnúsdóttir, who went west in 1900 to Manitoba and settled at Big Point. From there they moved to Langruth in 1913. Jóhann moved in 1941 to Vancouver where he worked in shipbuilding until he retired due to age.
