Þóra Ásmundsdóttir was born in Reykjavík on October 15, 1892.

Þóra came west with her brother, Vigfús Ásmundsson, to Tantallon in 1904 to her mother’s sister, Anna Vigfúsdóttir, who had settled in Tantallon with her husband, Narfi Vigfússon. Sigurður came west to Canada in 1888 with his parents, Jón Guðmundsson and Kristín Þórðardóttir. They settled in Tantallon, Saskatchewan. There Sigurður grew up and in 1899 he enlisted in the Canadian Army and served in the Civil War in South Africa from 1900-1902. Sigurður came back to Saskatchewan from S. Africa and worked there until 1914, then became a grain merchant until 1944. Then he and Þóra moved to Winnipeg and lived there for four years before moving west to the Pacific where they lived after that.
