Þorbjörg was the daughter of Eirík Jónsson and Vilborg Stefánsdóttir who settled in Minnesota. They moved north to Arborg, Manitoba in 1901. Karl came west to Manitoba in 1893 and worked with his brother Jón as a housebuilder. Karl and Þorbjörg lived in Winnipeg until 1919 when they moved to Kenville, Manitoba. In 1923, they settled on land a short distance from Arborg.
