Þórdís came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1894. Benedikt arrived there in 1896. Þórdís lived in Selkirk for seven years, but then moved to Iceland and lived there a number of years before returning to Canada and settling in Winnipeg. She lived there just a short time, because in 1905 she moved to the Álftárdals Settlement where she took land and lived the rest of her life.
