Þórður Diðriksson was born on March 26, 1828 in Rangárvallasýsla. He died on September 9, 1894 in Utah. Some sources in Utah list his name as Thomas Didriksen, others as Thordur Dedrickson.

Þórður travelled from the Westmann Islands (Vestmannaeyjar) to Copenhagen in 1855 and, in the same year, to England and onward west over the ocean. He landed in New York on February 15, 1856 and in Salt Lake City about mid-July of the same year.
