Margrét Þórhildur Hávarðardóttir was born on April 6, 1884 in S. Múlasýsla.

Halldór came west by sea in 1889 with his father, Halldór Jónsson. His mother, Arnbjörg Jónsdóttir, had come west 2 years earlier with their children. Margrét Þórhildur came west to Manitoba in 1888 with her parents, Hávarður Guðmundsson and Helga Jónsdóttir. Halldór moved north with his parents to Hayland, Manitoba and Margrét Þórhildur did the same with hers. They married there and began farming. They later moved to Westbourne on the southwestern side of Lake Manitoba.
