Þóroddur went to N. America in 1877, with last place of residence, Hreimsstadir, Hjaltastadahreppur. He left from Seydisfjord on the ship “Snowdon” with destination, Quebec, and settled in Minnesota.  They lived in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County in the 1885 Census.  Living with them was Sigurður Oddsson, Þóroddur’s father who emigrated in 1878.  Þóroddur worked in the Dalmann mill and was later a mailman in the area north of Minneota. In the 1920 census he and Anna lived with their daughter, Cora, and her husband, Arni Gislason in Minneota and he is called “Theodore”. In the 1930 census they lived in Redlands, California, and he is listed as “Thoroddur S,”  residing adjacent to his daughter Margret and her husband, Clarence Bang.
