Þorsteinn Jónsson was born in Skagafjarðarsýsla on May 11, 1874. He died in Manitoba on July 19, 1955. He took the name Thorsteinn J. Gislason in the west.

Children: Foster son: Lárus Sigurður Fjelsted b, January 23, 1924.
Þorsteinn came west in 1883 with his parents, Jón Gíslason and Sæunn Þorsteinsdóttir. They arrived in New York and went directly to Winnipeg and from there to Pembina County in N. Dakota. They settled southeast of Hallson. After Jón’s death in 1893, Sæunn continued to farm the land, but in 1899 she moved with her children to Brown, Manitoba. Þorsteinn went to a business school in Grand Forks and bought a store in Brown in 1909 and ran it until 1927, but at the same time he was farming.
