They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1878 and settled in Mikley. Valgerður moved to Keewatin, Ontario with the children after Þorsteinn’s death and lived there a number of years. She moved from there to the Árdals Settlement in Manitoba and then to the Geysir Settlement and lived the rest of her days in Riverton.
