Þórunn Elísabet Magnúsdóttir was born on December 17, 1853 in Skagafjarðarsýsla. She died in Saskatchewan on December 15, 1933.

Þórunn came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba, a widow with two children, Rut and Magnús, in 1885. She married Bjarni the same year, and they moved to the Hallson Settlement in N. Dakota. In 1911 they moved to Gull Lake, Saskatchewan where they lived for a few years. They moved from there to Selkirk, Manitoba but spent much time with their children in Saskatchewan.
