In 1900, he, his wife, and their daughter were listed in the census as living in Dieter Township, Roseau County, Minnesota. They moved from there to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1903 and settled near Leslie where Þorvaldur ran a shop.
