Valdimar Jónsson was born on May 14, 1874 at Hofsstaðir in S. Þingeyjarsýsla. He died in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) on May 3, 1968. He took the name Waldimar Johnson in the west.
Spouse: Margrét Bergsveinsdóttir b. August 9, 1876 in Dalasýsla, d. July 17, 1950 in Saskatchewan.

Valdimar came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1893. Travelling with him was his sister Þóra, a 23-year old widow, and her son Jón Aðalstein Ásmundsson. Valdimar worked the first years in New Iceland, then in the Argyle Settlement, and then south to N. Dakota. He was a driver in Winnipeg 1899-1906. Margrét had come west with her parents in 1888. Valdimar and Margrét lived in Winnipeg until 1906, then moved west to the Lakes Settlement in Saskatchewan and settled south of Wynyard.
