She came west to Manitoba in 1893 with her parents, Þorlákur Jónasson and Kristrún Pétursdóttir. She lived with them in the Argyle Settlement until 1908 and moved west with them to Dafoe in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. She moved from there in 1923 to Winnipeg. She was a teacher and worked in schools in Manitoba and Winnipeg.
