Veighildur Mabel Briem was born in the Fljóts Settlement in New Iceland on October 11, 1883. She died in Riverton on February 6, 1942. She took the name Veighildur M. B. Wood with marriage.

Veighildur was the daughter of Jóhann Briem and Guðrún Pálsdóttir, early settlers in the Fljóts Settlement in 1876 who lived at Grund. Percy was a teacher and ran the school in the Fljóts Settlement. He taught in many places, e.g. in Regina, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg, but later they returned to the Fljóts Settlement and lived in Riverton.
