Veroníka Ragnheiður Þorkelsdóttir was born on December 29, 1849 in S. Þingeyjasýsla. She died on April 4, 1912 in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan.

Sveinn and Veroníka came west across the sea in 1883 to Winnipeg, Manitoba and settled in New Iceland. They moved west to the Lakes Settlement in Saskatchewan in 1905 and took land east of Wynyard.
