Vigfús Sigurðsson was born in S. Þingeyjarsýsla on September 10, 1827. He died in N. Dakota on August 8, 1903.
Spouse: 1861 Guðrún Jónsdóttir b. in S. Þingeyjarsýsla in 1834.
Children: 1. Guðrún b. 1864 2. Sigurður b. 1866, d. in the Thingvalla Settlement 1882 3. Guðjón b. 1872, d. in New Iceland during the winter of 1875 – 1876.
Vigfús came west to Ontario in Canada in 1873 and lived in the Icelandic area of Rosseau and then Parry Sound. He moved to New Iceland 1875, taking land he called Vigur in the Árnes Settlement just south of Gimli. The first winter was spent living in tents and they lost Guðjón. They moved to Winnipeg and lived there for awhile before moving south to N. Dakota in 1880. They took land in the Thingvalla Settlement a few miles southwest of Mountain.
