Víglundur Jónsson was born on May 4, 1866 in Dýrafirði in Ísafjarðarsýsla. He died on February 10, 1938 in Gimli.

Víglundur emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1887 and soon after moved to Brandon. There he met and married Ingibjörg and they lived there until 1894 when they moved to Belmont. They did not stay there long before moving to 253 Rietta St., Winnipeg in the spring of 1896 and around the turn of the century, they moved to New Iceland and settled in the Isafold Settlement. They left there in 1909 and moved to Gimli because of Ingibjörg’s illness. They lived there the rest of their lives.
