Ólafur amd Feldís moved to Manitoba in 1903 and settled in Gimli. Ólafur contributed to the Icelandic community in Gimli, worked a lot in the Reading Society (Lestrarfélag) and the Icelandic National League. He worked for Armstrong Fisheries for 39 years. Feldís was the daughter of Þorlákur Hallgrímsson and Guðrún Eiríksdóttir.
