Samson Jónasson was born in Skagafjarðarsýsla on July 17, 1877.  He died on May 19, 1955.

Samson came west with his parents to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1887.

Samson lived with his brother in Winnipegosis one year then moved in 1903 to Winnipeg. He was first a police officer, but then studied printing, working at Almanak to begin with, but was then hired by Viking Press Ltd. around 1930. He bought the printing house in 1949 and it was now called Viking Printers and they printed Heimskringla for years. Guðrún was the daughter of Jón Björnsson and Margrét Eyjólfsdóttir, settlers at Grund in the Fljóts settlement.
