Halldór Sigurðsson was born in Mýrasýsla on September 15, 1884.

Halldór was the son of Sigurður Sigurðsson and Ragnheiður Þorveigur Þórdardóttir in Rauðamel in Mýrasýsla. Halldór grew up there until the age of seventeen, then came west across the ocean in the fall of 1901. He moved to Winnipeg and lived there all his life. He became a mason and later a master builder, with extensive activity in the construction industry for half a century. Þorgerður was originally from Hóla in Hörðudal in Dalasýsla and came west with her parents, Jón Jónsson and Halldóra Baldvinsdóttir. Rannveig was the daughter of Pétur Guðmundsson and Margrét Sigurðardóttir, who came west in 1900.
