Sigurður Finnbogason was born on June 17, 1856 in N. Múlasýsla. He died in Langruth, Manitoba on February 1, 1943.

Sigurður and Elín came west to Manitoba with little Jón, just a year old, in 1893. Traveling with them was Ingibjörg Jónsdóttir, Elín’s mother. They first lived at Brú in the Argyle settlement, later in Winnipeg and then in Sinclair, Manitoba before they settled in Langruth in 1911. Sigurður worked in agricultural work and construction but then as a rail worker for 30 years.
