Harold was the son of Þorberg Brynjólfsson and Anna Sigríður Helgadóttir in Mikley. There he completed his primary education and worked with his father and brothers fishing. Later he worked as a road cutter. He drowned, along with his brother Brynjólfur, on the way from Riverton to Mikley.
