Jóhann Ólafsson Briem was born December 7, 1845 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla. Died in the Icelandic River Settlement on July 3, 1838.
Spouse: December 10, 1881 Guðrún Pálsdóttir b. April, 1862 in Skagafjarðarsýsla, d. April 8, 1937.

Jóhann emigrated to Canada in 1876 and settled by Icelandic River in New Iceland. He was quite involved in the establishment of the new, Icelandic colony and contributed regularly to Framfari, the local publication. Guðrún arrived in the colony the same year as Jóhann along with her parents, Páll Pétursson and Margrét Magnúsdóttir. They left New Iceland in 1892 and moved to the Argyle Settlement. They did not stay long, a year later they were back in the Icelandic River Settlement.
