Theodór came west to Ontario in 1889 with his father, Jóhann Helgason and lived in Parry Sound for some time. They moved to Calgary Alberta where they were joined by Theodór’s mother, Halldóra Gunnarsdóttir and brothers, þeir Siggeir, Gunnar, Tryggvi and Kristján. Theodór worked there for some time before taking the train to Winnipeg. He was hired to work the farm by Kristjana in the Argyle Settlement. They married after several years and lived on the farm until 1920 when they moved to Glenboro.
