Guðmundur Arngrímsson was born in E. Skaftafellssýsla on November 19, 1861. He died on April 23, 1950 in Selkirk. He took the last name Anderson in the west.

They emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1900 and settled in the Isafold Settlement with friends and relatives. Floods in Lake Winnipeg in 1903 forced them to move and they went to Selkirk. Later, Guðmundur got a job in Lac du Bonnet east of Selkirk where he bought land and began farming. They lived there until 1940, when they moved back to Selkirk.
