Maren Halldórsdóttir was born on August 9, 1848 in W. Skaftafellssýsla. She died on December 19, 1926 in Spanish Fork.  Her death certificate in Utah lists her as Maryn Bjarnason.

Maren’s half-sister, Halldóra Árnadóttir, married Gísli Einarsson, in Spanish Fork, Utah. Halldóra paid for her sister’s trip to the west in 1881 and she lived at Halldóra and Gísli’s home. He married her on November 24, 1881, when polygamy was allowed in Utah. At the height of the Mormon controversy, Maren was forced to live in Canada for two years. Polygamy was banned in Utah in 1890. Halldóra had a very hard time accepting Gísli’s decision but finally reconciled with her sister who took care of her for the last years of her life in Spanish Fork.
