Björg came west to New Iceland in 1876 with her parents, Hallgrímur Guðmundsson and Guðrún M. Guðmundsdóttir, and siblings. They moved south to N. Dakota in 1880.  Björg and John lived in Garðar from 1883 to 1887, then begins the migration as seen through the birthplaces of their children. From 1887 to 1891, children were born in Grand Forks, N. Dakota, Brainerd, Minnesota, and Ignace, Ontario. They returned to Garður because a child was born there in 1892, but then the road goes north to Winnipeg. Finally, they settled in Piney, in southern Manitoba.
